1. What we collect

  • Account details – your name, email address and password (stored hashed) when you register.
  • Content you create – saved routes, reports, points of interest and preferences.
  • Location – your device location, only when you enable it, to centre the map and show GPS heading. It is used on-device and not stored to your profile unless you save it.
  • Technical data – basic logs (e.g. IP address, browser type) needed to run and secure the service.
  • Consent records – whether you accepted these terms and opted in to updates, with a timestamp.

2. Why we use it

  • To provide the service – accounts, route planning, saved data and closures.
  • To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
  • To send you service and marketing updates where you have opted in (you can opt out at any time).
  • To understand usage and improve features.

3. Legal bases

We rely on performance of a contract (to run your account), our legitimate interests (to secure and improve the service), and your consent (for marketing emails and device location). You can withdraw consent at any time.

4. Sharing

We don’t sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run Canal Nav (for example email delivery and hosting), and where required by law.

5. Retention

We keep your account data while your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet legal and operational needs. You can ask us to delete your account at any time.

6. Your rights

Subject to applicable law (including the UK GDPR), you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, object to certain processing, and request a copy of your data. Email [email protected] to exercise these rights.

7. Cookies & storage

We use essential cookies and local storage to keep you signed in and remember your settings. The app stores map data on your device to support offline use.
